I do all the stuff in the background – the accounts, keeping the servers running, making sure everyone’s sites are as quick as possible and up all the time.
I love doing it. I find it interesting and challenging and there is always plenty to learn.
I earned my skills through hard work and a lot of learning in my own time. I guess my big break was when I was temping at HBOS, they recognised I could code and contribute beyond just doing admin work. When my temp contract came to an end they gave me another on in one of their development teams. The other big break I got was when I moved to Desynit, that got me out of finance (which is dull AF) and into a place where I could work on more interesting projects and express myself a bit more in terms of engineering.
I worry about technology so you don’t have to.
