Five incredible photographers who are still shooting products for small businesses

The photography you use for your small business is so integral. As we mentioned in a previous blog post – 5 things to scrimp on (and 5 to splurge on) when you’re starting a small creative business – photography is definitely one to spend money on. High quality imagery is the easiest way to improve the quality of your website and social media, as well as so many other facets of your business.

You want potential customers to see your images and understand what you sell (and why you sell it), so choosing the right photographer to create images for your small business is key. Do your research to find a photographer who already takes the style of photos you want for your brand.

Due to the current pandemic, many photographers have been hurt financially as shoots have been cancelled. However, that means there’s more opportunity for small businesses to have their photos taken by awesome photographers who might normally be fully booked.

Like many of us, these talented product photographers have adapted to the new circumstances, encouraging small businesses to post products to them directly, to photograph in their home studios. Here are a handful of our favourite small business photographers that you should definitely consider for your next product shoot.

You’re on our website right now, which means you’ve seen Georgia’s beautiful photos. We work with her frequently because she absolutely nails the brief every. single. time. Other than capturing our pink office in central Bristol (gosh, I miss that place) and all of our smiling faces, Georgia mainly works with small brands in the south west of England, but can work with businesses based anywhere in the country with her snap and send remote service.

Georgia is brilliant at sharing stories through her warm, soft images and and creating lifestyle settings for your products. Other wonderful businesses she’s worked with are gorgeous candle shop Osmology (if you’re local to Bristol you might remember the cute shop they had on Christmas Steps), stunning jewellery seller Arlette Gold, and Carrie & Co, who make really pretty planners as you can see below.

Our very own Weronika works here at Studio Cotton as a Client & Website Executive, as well as taking all the photos for our stock photography bundles available to buy on Creative Market. We’re only slightly biased, but she is totally brilliant. Working in the product & lifestyle genre, Weronika creates clean & clear images. They’re unfussy, keeping the focus on the product. Her photos are bright airy and minimal.

Weronika loves working with sustainable brands and creative makers to help them elevate their presence through carefully curated imagery. Some examples of clients are natural skincare brand Dr Haushka (pictured above), Londe Botanics who made British grown botanical oils for face and body, and our client and pal, Stitching Me Softly, who sells brilliant crochet kits and finished pieces.

Holly Booth captures cute, high-quality lifestyle shots for some really great indie brands. She uses real life settings to create relatable, creative, contemporary images, and I don’t know about you, but I find them so cheery and lovely to look at.

Holly’s clients include Cotton Clara who sell absolutely adorable embroidery kits (pictured above) and have a very sweet logo, jewellery designer and illustrator Kate Rowland, and online special occasion boutique, Wedding in a Teacup.

A sweet and gentle soul, as well as a truly amazing photographer, Kasia perfectly captures beautiful light and tender moments. Her photos feel really intimate, honest, and candid. Although she prefers photographing all the wonderful shapes the human body makes, I think we can all see that she’s a dab hand at product photography too.

Kasia works primarily with sustainable wellbeing and athletic brands, and has recently worked for clothes and homeware store Fox & Feather (make sure you visit them on Gloucester Road, Bristol, when we’re allowed), sustainable plant-based skincare brand Wild Source Apothecary, and Nordic health & wellbeing retailer Kotka Living, all while working from home.

Chloe is based in Devon, south west England, and takes clean, stylish photographs of some really beautiful products. Her talents lie in creating clear images with good use of space and shape.

As well as these absolutely stunning photos of artist John Harris, Chloe has frequently created gorgeous imagery for Cabinet Jewellery, Exeter based independent womenswear and lifestyle brand Lorna Ruby, and another of our brilliant clients, chunky knit designer, knit kit seller and all-round yarn enthusiast, Lauren Aston Designs.
